Six soldiers were killed when a bomb exploded near their vehicles during a combat operation Monday in Salahuddin province, the military said in a statement. In another incident the same day, three more soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in Diyala province, another statement said.

Six men face charges for hiding 67 illegal immigrants in a one-story house in a residential neighborhood, U.S. officials said. A pilot who was killed with his daughter when he crashed into an in-law's home near a southern Indiana airport may have hit the house intentionally, Indiana State Police said. Indiana State Police spokesman 1st Sgt. Dave Bursten said a preliminary crash investigation leads "us to believe that this was an intentional act."

Afghan witnesses and gunshot victims said U.S. forces fired on civilians in cars and on foot along at least a six-mile stretch of road in Nangarhar province following a suicide attack against the Marine convoy. The U.S. military said militants also fired on American forces during the attack.
