The Saudis have recently asked permission to build a mosque in Moscow, a city where there are only four mosques and 2 million Muslims. The Russians, however, are saying they want, in return, an Orthodox church in Saudi Arabia.
Discuss It!
since Saudi Arabia is Islam's equivalent of the vatican
does this also mean we also get to have a Mosque in the Vatican?
give love get love

Saudi Arabia is bigger than all of Italy, let alone the Vatican. I'm sure they can squeeze a church in there somewhere.

It's still a great concept Mohamed.
If the Vatican wants to work out a deal and both parties are happy then that is great.
Russia is making an offer and the Muslims who want to build a Mosque in Moscow don't have to accept it.

@ kasfid
its not about size. The Arabian peninsula is all considered holy land. We were specifically instructed that nothing other than Mosques shall be constructed there.
The rest of the Arabian/Muslim world is full of churches and synagogues that stood/standing for hundreds and in some cases thousand years+ untouched
which is offtopic of course. the point is its a religious belief not a political belief which could cause a lot of harm if the government does decides one day hey lets build a church in saudi.

I agree Josh and no one can force Russia to build the mosque
I was just making a point that some places are considered a soft spot in the heart of a big sect of Christians just like Muslims
so just like it will enrage many Catholics to see a a Mosque built in Rome
it will enrage a lot of Muslims to see a Church built on the Arabian peninsula

This is a perfect example of why government should stay out of religion. It's way too polarizing.

Ha! Must be liberating not having to be politically correct.
God bless Russia, in any event.
That holy land routine is pretty irritating too. Tax breaks, untouchable land, days off, special behavioral privileges -- religion is a pretty sweet deal.

Sounds like the Russians have got a pair.
