The World Food Programme said it had had no response to its October appeal for $140m (£91m) to feed Zimbabwe. Food could run out entirely by January unless fresh support is provided, the WFP warned, as it takes six weeks for supplies to reach rural areas.

That place sure is a mess, I hope the US doesn't end up like that.

Strange how a currency can effect a nation.

Thankfully for us, their problems didn't really start with their currency: Mugabe came in and ran out all the white farmers who he felt were "oppressing" his people, then gave their farms to his friends and sold all of the productive instruments for parts. Whereas they used to be an exporter of food, they ended up being unable to produce enough food to even feed their own country.

IIRC, their hyperinflation started because of this, as a demand-side phenomenon: There was just so little left to buy with the current money supply that the value of their money plummeted...and to keep up with the high prices, Mugabe's genius economic thinking drove him to print more money en masse, because the problem he saw was that his people were "too poor" in currency to buy anything.
