He should try out lucid dreaming. It could be just as real as if he had built a time machine.

I'm glad he managed to focus the grief of his loss into actually getting something done. Although he realized that theoretically you can only travel back to the point in time when the machine was first switched on, his father inspired all of his progress and I'm sure he'd be proud of his son.
